First Ever Casks of Wood Fired Scotch Now Available!

Posted on

In 2020, we set out to build Scotland’s first wood-fired distillery. We opened our visitor centre in 2023 and began whisky production earlier this year in February 2024. And now we’re making good on one of our major project pledges: to introduce the first wood-fired Scotch.

We’ve Been Busy Making Whisky!

Since March of this year, we have filled 34 casks. Amongst them, 15 ex-Jack Daniels Whiskey American Standard Barrels.  Through four distillations every week – rain or shine, heat or frost, storm or calm – we have laboured to bring you a spirit more delicious than any other we have tasted: a vibrant, rich new make, which sets the stage for an incredible journey of discovery as it transforms in our premium American oak.

And, now, we are able to share our excitement with you as we open up the opportunity to own your own cask – the first liquid of its kind in Scotch-making history.

This Single Cask Offering

Over the next three years, 100 casks will be made available in a series of tranches.

This offer – the first tranche – contains seven casks for private ownership. Each of the 7 in this tranche is a first fill ex-Jack Daniels Whiskey American Standard Barrel (or “ASB”). These 200-litre casks traditionally infuse the spirit with notes of vanilla, caramel, and cream. A fresh, first-fill casks have a significant influence on the flavour and these Tennessee Whiskey casks really allow the spirit character to shine. Our previous experience with Bourbon barrels suggests that liquid in these casks will mature in around five to seven years. If you’d like to bottle this at cask strength, it would fill between 250 and 350 bottles, depending on bottling strength.

This first tranche of seven is ready to be filled now.

Price and Availability

This ballot will close as soon as we have 100 entries. The deposit is redeemable against your cask purchase price of £10,000. The ballot will be drawn periodically as cask availability can be promised with in a 4 month period. For instance, if you pay a deposit after the first seven casks have sold, then your name will go into the next ballot. We will always keep you informed when new availability opens up and whether your name has been drawn or not.

Seven casks are available immediately, with another 93 casks becoming available before the end of December 2027.

When you buy your cask, it means that you’re not only receiving an incredible Scotch landmark, but also enabling us to scale up our tiny distillery toward our ultimate goal of producing a single cask every day.

26 year old single Malt Scotch Auld Special Edition

Every whisky distillery has a long time to wait before it can offer what is distilled on site. Some distilleries make gin, some sell a blended whisky, some make aqua vite. We have been blending and bottling since 2017 and now have the facilities to do this in-house at the Moffat Distillery. We are pleased to tell you about the first cask that entered our warehouse this year.

What is Auld Special Edition?

But first, a little back-story on our Auld Special Edition range. We developed the range in 2020 for a few single casks (two blended malts, one single malt). These were our 13 year old Spicy, 15 year old Fruity and 16 year old Smoky. We’ve since sold every bottle, but we were able to add a newcomer thanks to a man called Andrew Moffat.
